Bees Bow Out!
Holders RUFC U12 Bees were knocked out of the BYDL Cup by an impressive AFT Reading side in a very close match
The Bees had one of those days, an another day the score may have been different. The boys in truth only got out of 3rd gear and despite missed opportunities and a missed penalty, the better team on the day deserved their reward.
Ollie McDonnell gave them the perfect start though, latching on to a Louis Warmington cross after good work by Felix Hampton. That should have been the signal for more but Reading came back into things, winning 50/50's and imposing themselves in the Bees half. Reading were then awarded a dubious penalty which looked outside the box which was converted to make things all square. There was then a couple of break-aways for the Bees that, only for very poor refereeing, could have given the Bees more goals.
At half time there were changes made and the game was very even. With 15 mins to go the Bees were awarded a penalty but the keeper saved well from Ellis Walker. Then from out of nothing, Reading squeezed the ball past Rhys Beaumont to take the lead.
Despite the Bees pushing for another goal and a stone wall penalty being turned down, they could not get past a committed Reading defence and keeper.
The dream of the double is over but the Bees will now focus on getting their hands on the Div 1 League trophy, with only 4 games left, its in their hands! The Effort award went to Louis Warmington for being brave and always wanting the ball, looking to create something for his team and a fantastic cross for the goal.
Good luck to AFT Reading in the Semi-Final.
